The Thrush is Finally Gone

We were reintroduced to baby's thrush by our granddaughter Kaitlynn. (Her mother had it when she was a baby as well). She came kicking and screaming on April 21, 2006 and life has never been the same. We think she's the most beautiful thing on this side of heaven!

Shortly after her grand appearance she started developing white spots in her mouth. Furthermore, her mother, our lovely daughter Christal, complained of pain in her breasts during nursing. Her doctor confirmed they both had thrush.

She did what every good mom would do but the thrush would not leave. Over the counter drugs, home remedies and prescriptions proved ineffective. Here's how Christal put it:

When my daughter was born (April 21/06)I had decided that I wanted to nurse her for as long as I could. I started nursing and all went as I had hoped that it would, it was a beautiful experience. About 2 weeks after she was born we both developed thrush. It was so painful, it felt as though razor blades were in my breasts whenever she would nurse. My midwife told me to use Gentian Violet to see if that would help get rid of the thrush. As long as I was using the Gentian Violet it worked but as soon as I would stop using it the thrush would be back. I considered weaning Kaitlynn at that point because it was so painful; but then we decided to up my dose of Mangosteen juice as well as put Kaitlynn on a diluted dose of the Mangosteen juice. Within 48 hours both of us were thrush free. We have continued to give the Mangosteen juice to Kaitlynn and neither of us has had thrush since those first few weeks. Kaitlynn is now 6 ½ months old, I am still nursing her and loving it.
